IVFDF 2006

Frequently Asked Questions

When is IVFDF?

IVFDF 2006 will run from Friday 24th February 2006 until Sunday 26th February 2006. See the timetable for details.

What is this IVFDF thing anyway?

IVFDF (usually pronounced iv-diff, in case you were wondering) is the longest continually running folk festival in the country. Each year a different university town hosts a weekend of pretty much non-stop dancing, music and general jumping around.

How do I get a ticket?

Tickets are available at the festival. We stopped taking advance bookings on the 10th February, because we couldn't guarantee that receipts would get back to people before the festival.

It is not necessary to reserve tickets in advance. We do not expect to run out of space, so you should have no problem getting a ticket. However, we cannot guarantee entry to any individual event.

See our prices.

Who goes to IVFDF?
I'm not a student, can I come?

This is nominally a student event, but previous festivals have been enjoyed by large numbers of ex-students, random folkies, passing locals and bribed friends or partners of enthusiastic dancers. Basically everyone is welcome, but expect student levels of energy and quality of accommodation!

Where will I sleep / eat / wash?

If you know anyone in Cambridge and are very nice to them until February, they might let you sleep at their house and use their shower. Or there are plenty of B&Bs about. Otherwise, "indoor camping" at the school is free and involves you bringing a sleeping bag and lying on the floor in it while people dance around and over you. Don't expect a relaxing weekend away! The school has showers and there will be places there to buy food and drink, or you can walk to the local pub or shops.

I don't want to sleep on the floor, where can I find accomodation?

Try Visit Cambridge.

Here are some B&Bs on the right side of town, which have websites.

These come from Visit Cambridge, and are not an exhaustive nor a recommended selection. But they might help.

Can I bring a Camper Van?

You what? There is parking on-site and camper vans are permitted. However, we cannot provide any facilities, such as electricity or drainage, so you're on your own. Also, if you arrive too late and the car park is full, you might have to park over the road on the Lower ScHool site. Alternatively, there is a Caravan Club site within easy walking distance.

Can I bring a Tent?

It will be February. It will be cold. The floor in the school will not be. But we appreciate it is easier for some people to bring a tent than to sleep on the floor. The Caravan club at the back of the school accepts tents as well as camper vans, and we suggest you get in contact with them. The school will not allow tents to be pitched on the grass/mud in winter.

Is there a morris tour?

Yes, details are here. Even if your whole team can't come, there are usually scratch teams (in various styles) that individuals can join in with.

What is it with the potatoes?

Erm... One of Edward Monkton's interesting thoughts is about a dancing potato. What could we do?

You haven't answered my question...
