Maypoles with Mike Ruff

Mike Ruff has been teaching Maypole Dancing for more than a decade having started almost by accident. In 2012 he teamed up with Jenny Read, appearing here as…… , to write a new book about it and The Maypole Manual was published by Spinning Path Music last year. He also headed up the Morris! Hey! project to bring Morris Dancing to a new audience and has a number of other publications in the pipeline
Mike now runs workshops and training sessions at schools, clubs & festivals around the country and beyond. This has included working with English National Ballet at Kensington Palace for a Big Dance 2012 project and a creative project at The University of the Arts in London. His last festival appearance was at Shrewsbury Folk Festival in August 2014 and this is the first of 2015.
Away from Maypoles Mike has a full time career as a musician, caller and singer working with a number of different bands and as a solo performer. Recently he has been giving talks on Country Dancing (among other topics). In spite of all this he generally fails to take himself seriously.
