Buffalo Gals Stampede

Stampede

Buffalo Gals Stampede: the hottest new Anglo-American dance show on the scene, featuring high-energy percussive step dance to the driving rhythms of the UK’s favourite old-time country string band, The Buffalo Gals. Traditional, blue grass sounds infused with vibrant energy and humour – and a little of the unexpected – makes this an intoxicating dance show to remember.

Buffalo Gals Stampede is a dynamic 10 person dance act comprising Buffalo Gals Old-Time Country String band and their troupe of 5 awe-inspiring Appalachian flat-footing dancers.

This style of dance originated from travellers settling in the Appalachian mountains in the United States; the dancers were the ‘drummers’ beating out the syncopated rhythms with their feet.

Growing into its own vibrant style of sole, duet or team dance, Appalachian dance is also often accompanied by ‘hamboning’ where performers drum out percussion by hitting and slapping out the beats on their own bodies!

Our dancers are the best flat-footers in the UK and are inspired and trained by Appalachian dance’s first and foremost expert, Ira Bernstein.
