Getting here

The address of the IVFDF reception is:
60 Pleasance
Edinburgh
EH8 9TJ

If you don’t live in this beautiful city already, here is how to find your way north (for most of you), south (for some of you) or east/west (for even fewer of you).

By plane

Edinburgh Airport is located just outside of the city and has scheduled flights to/from many UK and European cities. Check its Wikipedia page or the airport’s website for up-to-date lists of airlines and destinations. Outside of the main terminal building are a bus stand and a taxi rank.

Taxis to the city centre should cost around £20 – £25.

The Airlink 100 buses take you from the airport all the way to Waverley Bridge, outside of the train station. Buses run very frequently, take around 30 minutes and cost £4/£7 for a single/return journey. Again, check out the airport’s website for more information. See below for directions from Waverley Bridge to the IVFDF reception.

By train

Edinburgh has several smaller and one big train stations. Be sure to book your train tickets to Edinburgh Waverley station, the main station (code EDB).

Check the National Rail website for connections to and from Edinburgh Waverley station.

Once you’re here, exit the train station towards Waverley Bridge.

From Waverley Bridge to the IVFDF reception

There are two sensible ways of getting from Waverley Bridge to the IVFDF reception: taking a taxi or walking. Taxis leave from Waverley Bridge and from inside the train station.

Walking from Waverley Bridge to the IVFDF reception should take around 15 minutes only. However, Edinburgh is quite hilly – and the hills seem to become steeper the more luggage you have (we’ve all been there…). Here’s the easiest walking route from Waverley Bridge to the IVFDF reception: http://goo.gl/maps/oe85K

From Waverley Bridge walk all the way up Cockburn Street to the High Street (better known as Royal Mile, as it connects the castle and the palace). Turn left and walk down the Royal Mile until St. Mary’s Street appears on your right. Also on your right appears The World’s End, a pub. Turn right and walk down St Mary’s Street. Cross Cowgate/Holyrood Road and continue up Pleasance.

By bus

Long distance buses arrive at the Edinburgh Bus Station (previously St. Andrew Square Bus Station), which is served by Megabus and National Express among others.

Walking from the bus station to the IVFDF reception should take around 20 minutes (http://goo.gl/maps/3z2XT). Exit the bus station onto N St Andrew Street, turn left and follow St Andrew St until you arrive at Princes Street (you will pass St Andrew Square on your right). Turn left again and follow Princes Street until North Bridge appears on your right. Follow North Bridge all the way up to the High Street (also known as Royal Mile). Turn left and walk down the Royal Mile until St. Mary’s Street appears on your right. Also on your right appears The World’s End, a pub. Turn right and walk down St Mary’s Street. Cross Cowgate/Holyrood Road and continue up Pleasance.

By car

From the north of Scotland follow the A9 or A90 down across the Forth Road Bridge to the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) via the M9 extension and M8.

From the west and the Midlands follow the M6/M74 to Glasgow, then follow the signs to join the A8/M8 East to Edinburgh. Join the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) eastbound. Follow the A720 round to Straiton turnoff (watch out for the IKEA sign) and then follow the signs for the city centre.

From the east of England follow the A1 up to Edinburgh, joining the city bypass (A720) westbound. Follow the A720 round to Sherrifhall roundabout and follow the signs for the A7 and the city centre.

Once inside the city limits, see the map for details
