Friday - Ceilidh

Band: GloryStrokes
Caller: Pete Rees

Possibly the world's only traditional English metalcore dance band, GloryStrokes bring together some well known names from the UK folk dance scene with a cataclysmic dash through their skeleton-riddled musical closets. Take two melodeons, add double kick drums, detuned guitars, beats, samples and weird keyboard noises and you're left with traditional music as it hasn't been heard before, bridging the barrier from barn dance to mosh pit, with shouts from the deleteriously delirious Pete Rees.

Friday - Eurodance

Band: Janiveer (ex Jabadaw)

As Jabadaw they have been delighting French dance audiences across the country for years with their trad-jazz fusion tunes and relaxed style. Now enlivened and reformed as Janiveer they are great for some slinky French dancing or for chilling out and taking in the atmosphere.

Friday - Eurodance

Band: Minnie Moosika

Minnie Moosika play frenetic foot stamping music for dance, from Eastern European and Klezmer traditions. Clarinet, fiddle, double bass, mandola, voice and guitar - tight melodies, sharp arrangements that will whisk you away.

Band: Crucible

Crucible marry driving and infectious instrumental music with richly layered harmony song and subtle accompaniments. Their music combines the deepest roots of their native English tradition with a fresh and contemporary edge to produce performances sparking with raw energy. Now enjoying considerable success, they have performed on the main stages of major folk festivals in the UK and abroad, and at IVFDF we see them back in their home town of Sheffield.

Saturday - Contra

Band: Vertical Expression
Caller: Andrew Swaine

High-energy contra band Vertical Expression took IVFDF 2007 by storm and we are delighted that they're coming back for more in 2008, ably assisted by the immensely talented caller Andrew Swaine. Featuring a 4-piece line up of fiddle, melodeon, guitar and double bass, the band's sound is based on a repertoire of American, French-Canadian and Irish tunes and influenced by the musicians' backgrounds in English ceilidh, bluegrass and jazz. Andrew is a popular caller and IVFDF regular who is well-known on the contra dance circuit.

Members have a wide range of musical backgrounds (Crucible, Hekety, Jabadaw, Gloworms and Glorystrokes) and are all well-known on the scene (and on other scenes) in various guises, but are here united in a new 21st Century quest. (18+ Only)
