Minor Contravention
Minor Contravention is an exciting new combination featuring members of two of IVFDF's favourite contra dance bands - Nicky McConkey from The Night Before on fiddle, Ian Roberts from Vertical Expression on melodeons and feet, and Charley Roberts from Vertical Expression on piano.
The band takes a variety of dance tunes ranging from stompy to slinky, layers them up with dynamic fiddle, detailed melodeon or driving one-row accordion, big chunky piano chords and an extra boost from foot percussion, expertly pairs them up with whatever's happening on the dance floor, and plays them in a way that you can't help but dance to!

Geoff is well known as a caller for American Squares and Contra and English Ceilidh. He has been invited to call at national dance festivals, including Whitby, Chippenham and Sidmouth, and is well respected among his peers. He has considerable experience as a dancer himself, particularly in Appalachian dancing, performing at many festivals.
His experience as a dancer stands him in good stead when calling, as his sympathy with those on the floor means that he is helpful to beginners as well as extending the expert dancers.
