Exeter City

Ok, so the football club might not be in the premier league but it does have other things going for it......Other info about what's around Exeter can be found at the Exeter City web site or the West County Tourist Information Site but here's some basic stuff.

Directions to City Centre

The city centre is about 15-20 mins walk (down hill) away. The quickest way into town is to come out by the entrance near the Washington Singer labs, follow Prince of Wales road to the end, turn left onto New North Road and keeping going until you come to the clock tower (on a roundabout). Cross over the road there onto Queen St (Job Center on corner). This roads lead directly to the High St.

The alternative route, if you're closer to Lafrowda residences or Cornwall House, is to turn left out of the main entrance, follow the road up the hill until you reach the traffic lights. Turn right down Pennsylvania Road (Kilmorie Residences on corner). Follow this road right down until you come to traffic lights. Turn left at the traffic lights and you'll come out on the High St. by Debhnams.

What's there

You'll find all the major banks in the high street as well as all the main high street shops. There is a Sainbury's in the Guild Hall Shopping Centre and Tesco's is up past Debhnams on Sidewell St. There are numerous pubs tucked away. Try the Ship -a favourite haunt of Francis Drake or the Well House (by the cathedral) which boasts a Roman skeleton in it's cellars as well good ales. The cathedral itself is worth a look.

For eating out during the day there's MacDonalds and Burger King. For a lardy all-day breakfast and other goodies try The Real McCoy's. You'll find it in halfway down Fore St, at the back of a small parade which is on your right as you go down. For vegetarians, Herbies on North St is popular.

If you would like to do some sightseeing the Quay has some interesting antique shops and offer some nice river walks. There's also the cathedral, the Royal Albert museum and the Underground tunnels.
