Workshops so far planned, or which people have already agreed to teach,
include:
- Scottish Country Dance with Bob Grant for Advanced, and Caroline
Bradshaw for Beginners.
- Highland dancing with Anna McMillin.
- Calling for dances with Rhodri Davies.
- Polish dancing with Christine Aerts.
- Cape Breton step dancing with Mairi Campbell of The Cast.
- Cajun dancing with Steve Simpson.
- Appalachian dancing with David Hind.
- Hornpipe with Martyn Harvey - very popular in Manchester.
- Border Morris dance with Martyn Harvey.
- Mongolian Dancing with Martyn Harvey (a multi-talented man!).
- Renaissance dancing with Barabara Webb.
- The Cakewalk with Anna MacMillin.
- Playford with Chris Dewhurst and Sue Stapledon.
- Warming up with Catriona Shaw, a qualified physio-therapist.
She will also be holding a clinic at some point in the weekend.
- Hebridean Weaving Lilt with Cathy Harley.
- Clog dancing with Jenny Geddes.
- Rapper Sword with Jeff Kirk.
- Ceilidh dancing with Ian Brockbank. These are the traditional
Scottish dances, such as
the Dashing White Sergeant, the Military Twostep, the Gay Gordons
(don't misunderstand - that means the brightly dressed soldiers
from the Aberdeen area, called the Gordon Highlanders) which are done
at Burns suppers, Weddings and other social gatherings, and known by
most Scots.
Other workshops we are trying to arrange (in no particular order):
- Irish dancing with the Setanta School of Irish Dancing
- both step and set.
- Tibetan and Chinese dancing.
- Scandinavian with Sharon Weiss.
- American Square dancing with Sharon Weiss.
- Faroese Chain with Sharon Weiss.
- Israeli.
- Balkan dancing with Zdravets (I hope I've spelled that correctly!)
- Yoga with the Edinburgh JENGAR school of Yoga.
- Samba with the Edinburgh Samba School.
- Flamenco.
- Indian Dance with Priya Srikumar.
And for the musicians (and those with musical aspirations):
- Chanter workshop with Manuel Trucco.
The chanter is the bit of the bagpipes which plays
the tune. The rest is an air-sac and drones.
- Workshop for the Sunday afternoon (survivors' ceilidh) scratch band,
to give them a chance to practise beforehand and sound even more amazing
than usual!
- Drumming.
- Hammered Dulcimer with Pete Grassby.
- Others...?
And finally of course, the traditional IVFDF
- Juggling workshop - or maybe we'll go for bubbles this time.
Watch this space!
If you have a burning desire to do something, but can't see it here, or if
you know of someone who could teach any of these, or if you are just
longing to take a workshop yourself, do please get in touch.
