What is IVFDF all about?
IVFDF 2007. Come and join us at the 57th InterVarsity Folk Dance Festival the longest
continuously running folk festival in the British Isles, founded in 1951. Every year students and
nonstudents alike invade a gullible university for a weekend of dance, music and song.
Dances and Ceilidhs
The festival kicks off on Friday night with a Scottish Ceilidh to the Andy Kain Band and an English ceilidh with the John Dipper Band and caller Gordon Potts.
Saturday night features a ceilidh with Peeping Tom and Hugh Rippon, A Scottish Country Dance to
Sandy Legget and his Scottish Country Dance Band, a swing dance run by the Swing Doctors and a contra dance with Vertical Expression and caller Rhodri Davies.
Workshops
More than 40 workshops will run over Saturday and Sunday morning, with a strong Scottish lineup (country, highland, scottish step, quadrilles, weaving lilt, port a beul, scottish song...) joined by dance styles from England (English country dancing, morris, rapper...) and the rest of Europe and the world (French, Irish, Greek, swing, Appalachian...).
Still not enough dancing?
If that's still not enough, you can dance into the small hours at the Friday and Saturday late night
dancing sessions.
Saturday afternoon will have the demonstration ceilidh, your chance to see what other groups are up to
and to show off your own skills. Alternatively, you can join the morris tour and sample the wide range of
public houses available in Edinburgh.
Finally, if you still have the energy on Sunday afternoon, the festival will finish with the traditional
survivors' ceilidh.
How do I get a ticket?
Tickets and merchandise can be bought from the tickets page of this website, by sending us an order form with a cheque, or from reception at the festival.
Tickets and merchandise ordered in advance will be available to collect from reception when you arrive.
How do I find it?
Reception will be in Teviot Union, which will also be the venue for some workshops and dances. Other dancing venues will be McEwan Hall, the Southside Community Centre and the Pleasance Societies Centre, all within easy walking distance.

Where do I sleep?
The weekend ticket price includes indoor camping - i.e a piece of floor to put a sleeping bag on. This
will be in church and other halls within reach of the main venues by public transport or walking.
If you want something a bit closer to the venues or want a proper bed then look no further than the
Cowgate Hostel. Located only 5 mins walk from the main
Venue of Teviot Union and with beds in a shared dormitory from only £9/night.

That thing that squeaks...?
It's a haggis, a famous mythical creature and Scottish national dish.
Squeaky haggises are also available to buy from the festival.

It's finally 2007, and just over two months to go to the festival...
We've added times and places to our workshop timetable, and more workshop descriptions are coming in all the time, so keep checking back for more details.
Display Ceilidh Band and Caller
28th December 2006
Completing our lineup of bands and callers for the festival, the band for the display ceilidh will be
Sandy Brechin and Alison Smith on accordian and fiddle, with caller Adam Hughes.
Sandy and Alison play together in the The Sensational Jimi Shandrix Experience Ceilidh Band and the folk rock band Bùrach - if you danced to the Jimi Shandrix Experience at IVFDF 2006's Scottish Dance or late night dancing, you'll know you don't want to miss this - and if you didn't, you should take the chance to hear them this time round.
Adam is a Cambridge-based IVFDF veteran with experience of calling for English, Scottish and American dances, who will be doing his best to coax something Englishy out of the band, and something Scottishy out of the dancers.
